Menominee Gets Knocked Out in Zone 5 Semi Finals

Post Season With Win

The Menominee Red Wave baseball team took a solid win over the Bark-River Harris legion team last Thursday in Gladstone to open the Michigan zone 5 legion post season. The win was obtained by a 7-4 differential.

The Red Wave wasted no time crashing the plate in the first inning as Alex Hanson got the action going with a base after being struck by a pitch. Heading Monroe followed with a double while Buddy Beyer made it a 2-0 game with a single that brought the two runners home.

After shutting down Bark-River Harris with runners in scoring position, the Menominee batters went right back to work, increasing their lead to two over the second inning. Jake Rivard got things rolling in the inning with a lead off single. Hansen and Jason Janquardt helped out by loading the bases off two errors that also allowed Rivard to cross home.

Beyer kept that attack on end with a single that scored Janquardt for the 4-0 lead.

The bottom half of the inning saw Bark-River Harris score their first run to get things a bit closer.

The top of the fourth saw Monroe begin a new threat after being hit by a pitch. He made his way to second before causing home off a Jesus Becerra single.

Becerra took advantage of an over throw at third to score the Red Wave's sixth run of the night.

With a two run fourth and a one run sixth the Bark-River Harris boys narrowed the lead to 6-4.

Keaton Uecke posted the Menominee boys' final score of the evening when he went home off a Rivard double.

At the plate Menominee was led by Rivard with a two of three showing. He had one RBI and one run. Becerra went two of four with an RBI and a run while Beyer was tow of four with three RBIs and a run.

Hanson took the mound win allowing four hits, three runs and four walks while striking out three.

Third Round

The Menominee Red Wave got a win and a loss Friday evening in the Zone 5 legion tournament, beating Negaunee 11-0 before falling to Gladstone 3-0.

The first game saw Negaunee roll over early for the R3ed Wave who posted a big couple innings. The first inning saw Menominee wrangle up a 4-0 lead before improving the mark over the second to bring the game to an 8-0 differential.

Starting the game was Alex Hanson who walked. H was followed by two more Menominee hitter who also took a base to load the diamond. Dante Sartorelli slapped a two RBI single while Keaton Hecke repeated in the next at bat with his own two RBI single for that early 4-0 lead.

A ground rule double in the second inning by Hanson left runners on second and third giving Monroe a chance on his ground out that scored a runner. A wild throw gave Hanson an opening at the plate for the run.

Sartorelli drove in Buddy Beyer off a fielders choice while Jesus Becerra got another run off an errant throw for the 8-0 lead.

A one run fourth and a two run fifth gave Menominee the 11-0 lead which their defense defended for the shut out win.

Monroe took the mound win for Menominee allowing two hits, no runs and three walks while striking out three.

At the plate Beyer was three of four with two RBIs and a run. Sartorelli was one of three with three RBIs while Monroe went one of three with an RBI and two runs.

Game two was much closer and Menominee had its troubles finding those big innings they enjoyed in the early game.

Menominee in fact was unable to find the plate over seven innings while Gladstone took the win off a one run third and a two run fifth.

At the plate Menominee's Janquardt was one of two with one run while Beyer was one of three. Rivard went on of one.

Jake Rodgers got the win for Menominee on the mound allowing five hits and no runs while striking out three.

Season Ends At

the Hands Of Marquette

The Menominee Red Wave, who made it all the way to the Zone 5 semi-finals were handed a post season ending loss from the winning Marquette Blues Saturday evening 7-0.

The Blues kept a steady pace over all six of their scoring innings getting one to start the game before posting a second run in the hit. Holding a two run lead they slowly built pain that mark with a two run fifth and a three run sixth for the 7-0 lead.

Menominee was led at the plate by Jason Janquardt who went one of three. Jesus Becerra was one of three while Zach Starzynski went one of two.

The mound loss was taken by Menominee's Janquardt who allowed four hits, six runs and two walks while striking outdone.
