Marinette Shutsdown Shawano With Tenth Inning Double Play

The Marinette Redbirds had a battle on their hands when they took on the hosting Shawano Lobos Wednesday night coming away with the 4-3 10 innings win.
Marinette jumped onto the board first to get things going in the marathon match. They scored a single run in the first inning to set the tone. Jordan Powers was the Redbird to get the gears turning as he single to be the first on base during the opening frame. Jason Hofer was next to reach also hitting a single. Scottie Eldredge made it to first thanks to a Lobo's error while Nick Daye was struck by a wild pitch for the bases loaded walk, giving Powers the plate and the 1-0 lead.
Powers also made an impact on the scoreboard during the fifth when he doubled to lead off the inning. After an Eldredge single Powers was able to cross home for the 2-0 lead.
Shawano was finally able to answer Marinette in the sixth inning when the Lobos' Chase Henning hit a triple. Teammate Brad Bartz brought him home off a sacrifice fly for the 2-1 readout.
Marinette improved their lead in the ninth inning when Hofer went to first after a dropped third strike and later scored when Daye swatted a fielders choice that allowed Hofer to make it a 3-1 game.
But that two run lead wasn't enough to end the game as the Lobos' found a way to work their way to the 3-3 tie.
The Lobo's first scored thanks to a bases loaded single that brought two runs in for the tie.
Heading into the games tenth inning Marinette was able to put away the Lobos', doing so with a Trevor Bloch single that scored Kiefer Powers who came in at pinch runner for Blake Miller who had made it on after a lead off single.
Marinette ended the game by turning a double play on the Lobos in the bottom half of the tenth.
Eldredge took the mound win for the Redbirds by allowing a single hit, no runs, no walks and one strike out over his 1 and 1/3 innings.
Brian Bell who started the game on the mound for the Redbirds pitched a solid game by allowing just three hits over his seven innings.
At the plate Marinette's J. Powers was four of six with two runs while Alex Hanson was three of four. Bloch finished the evening two of five.
