Wausaukee --Wausaukee Blood Drive is Monday, Sept. 9 at the Wausaukee School Auditorium from 12:30 until 5:30 pm. The Wausaukee Lions and Leos along with some Legion members will help. Everyone may come all day and all Wausaukee blood drives qualify for senior scholarships. This year $2,500 in scholarships went to Wausaukee seniors.
Call Barb at 715-759-5747 or 715-927-5213 to make an appointment. You also may just walk in to give. Goal is 50 pints. Also red bloods cells can be drawn from anyone who meets the criteria. To do this call and make an appointment as this type of donating will stop about one hour before the end of the drive at 4:30 pm. This will count as two units or pints.
Healthy donors may give every 56 days or 8 weeks. Donors may give in Wausaukee, Crivitz and Silver Cliff all year round.
Persons must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Students 16 years old may give blood with a form signed by their parents. Every unit of blood can be used for three or more patients. If taking any medication just need to be checked out. Diabetics may also give if they are under control.
Before donating eat a good diet and get plenty of water. This keeps iron count up so able to donate. Low iron is the main reason people are unable to donate. Eating broccoli, raisins, nuts and other high iron foods helps, also.
Each donation can help 3-5 people. Anyone who would like to help with the drive call Barb at 715-759-5747 or 715-927- 5213 to let her know what time and how long they can help. Help is needed in loading, escorting donors, canteen, registration, setting up and taking down, and bringing bars and cookies. Persons may also call for an appointment to donate blood.
