Strong Thunder Storm Rips Through Peshtigo
Issue Date: August 8, 2019
A strong, fast moving thunder storm containing straight-line winds and hail blew through Peshtigo Saturday, Aug. 3 at approximately 2:20 pm. Numerous trees and power lines were reported down all over the city.
Areas by Rainbow Subdivision, East Front Street, West Front Street, Emery Avenue and Ellis Avenue were particularly hard hit. Residents reported trees ripped in half by the wind. A power pole was snapped in half at Triangle Park and a water main was broken there by a fallen tree there. Peshtigo Police, Fire and Dept. of Public Works employees were out in force answering calls for assistance. Eugene Frank of Frank's Logging brought some of his logging equipment to help remove some of the large trees that had fallen and private citizens also offered assistance. Power was out in most of Peshtigo for several hours. Public Service crews were out trying to restore power to those affected by the storm.
On Monday morning Public Service Crews were again in Peshtigo trying to cleanup trees and repair damaged lines. City crews worked to chip up as many tree branches as possible. It could take another several weeks for all the branches to be cleared.
