Area Teams Battle it Out in Invites and Triangulars

Friendship Tournament

Wisconsin Dells-The Peshtigo Bulldogs traveled to Wisconsin Dells in order to face 7 other teams in the Friendship volleyball tournament. Peshtigo senior Brenna Shoenebeck had 6 aces, 13 kills one block, and 18 digs. Junior Grace Wickman lead the Bulldogs with 3 aces, 35 kills and 80 digs in the tournament. Allison Dudka added to the Bulldogs success with 2 aces, 15 kills, 4 blocks, and 22 digs. Setter Blake Sharks assisted the other Peshtigo players 51 times in the tournament. Sophomore Tori Jandt helped Peshtigo with an ace and 69 digs. Samantha Kodric helped the Bulldogs with 19 kills. All in all a great outing for the Peshtigo Bulldogs taking 4th (Silver Bracket), 3 wins 4 losses overall.

Gillett VB Triangular

Gillett-Last Thursday the Gillett Tigers hosted St. Thomas Aquinas Academy's Cavaliers along with the Crivitz Wolverines in a Triangular meet. Gillett came out swinging against STAA, winning their first game. STAA is a young team (1 senior, 2 juniors) with a lot of heart, never giving up gained momentum in each game they played. The Tigers took all three games away from the Cavaliers 25-12, 25-14, 25-19.

Crivitz and STAA were the next to play each other. Crivitz also took all three games away from St. Thomas. Crivitz is the team with the most experience, with 7 seniors and 4 juniors, and it showed. STAA's sophomore middle hitter Lianna Baxter shows a lot of promise, with a total of 11 monster kills for the night.

The last match of the night was Gillett against Crivitz. There were so many long volleys in this match, it was very entertaining to watch. Morgan Gyger lead the Wolverines with 10 aces, 20 kills, and 2 assists, followed by Chloe Gryszynski with 2 aces, 16 kills, 13 digs and 2 assists. Saige Nelsen had 6 aces, 3 kills, 8 kills, and 50 assists throughout the night. The Wolverines were able to win all three games against the Tigers: 14-25, 12-25, 19-25.

Final results:

Crivitz: 2-0

Gillett: 1-1

STAA: 0-2



Lena Triangular

Lena-The Wildcats hosted the Suring Eagles and the Oneida Thunderhawks last Thursday, August 29th. The Thunderhawks were able to win 3 games against both Lena and Suring. The Eagles were able to win 3 games against the Wildcats. Suring and Lena were able to make Oneida work for their wins against them both taking it to 4 games in each match. Oneida lost the first game 19-25 against Suring, then came back winning 25-22, 25-13, and 25-16.

Oneida took the first game against Lena 25-11, while Lena battled back against Oneida to win the second game 25-22, then continuing to give Oneida a run for their money, losing the final two sets 26-24, and 27-25.

Suring's Cher Whiting set up team members 21 times, had 4 aces, 3 kills, and 1 block, Kelsey Smith had 1 ace, 14 kills, and 6 digs, and Stephanie Huth had 2 service aces, 5 kills, 2 blocks and 4 digs.

Lena's Lillian Sellen set up 8 assists and 2 aces, Morgan Cruz had 8 kills and 4 digs and 1 ace, while Alex Kristof offered 2 serving aces and 1 spike kill for the evening.

Final results:

Oneida: 2-0

Suring: 1-1

Lena: 0-2



Niagara Triangular with Wausaukee and Coleman

Niagara-The Badgers were able to sweep their first conference Triangular against the Rangers and Cougars. Against Wausaukee, Niagara dropped the first game 16-25, won games two and three 25-20, 25-19, lost game four 20-25, and won the fifth and final game 15-10.

Coleman was able to take the first two games against Wausaukee 25-19, 25-14, Wausaukee battled back and won the third game 25-16, in the fourth game Coleman came back around winning 25-20. Niagara took Coleman to task in 3 games winning them all: 25-13, 25-19, and 25-14.

Niagara's Cassie Gill had 2 aces, 16 kills, 2 blocks and 4 digs, Bailey Pearson had 14 kills, 1 assist, and 19 digs, Allysa Cretton had 12 kills, 1 block, 2 assists, and 7 digs, while Morgan Borchardt had 2 aces, 3 kills, 38 assists, and 7 digs.

Niagara Head Coach Carol St. Arnauld: "Starting the conference off with 2 conference wins for us is huge. We battled back after losing set one and took the win in two and three, battled in four, then persevered in game five."

Wausaukee's Kylee Smith lead the Rangers with 23 kills, 6 aces, 16 digs and 4 blocks, while Kaelyn Schiles gave the Rangers with 21 kills, 15 digs and 3 aces.

Final results:

Niagara: 2-0

Coleman: 1-1

Wausaukee: 0-2
