Crivitz's Gruszynski Breaks 30 Year Record

Issue Date: February 13, 2020

Gruszynski Breaks Decades Old Record in Loss to Bonduel

The Bonduel Bears were able to come away with a very very close call against the Crivitz Wolverines, defeating the home court Wolverines by way of one point 46-45.

Though the Wolverines were handed a loss they did take home a small victory in that their leading scorer Chloe Gruszynski fired off enough points to break a 30 year standing school record set by Vic "Buck" Gehm.

The record numbers of buckets totaled 1603 back in 1990. Gruszynski eclipsed that mark Saturday at the Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh. Home to the Milwaukee Herd.

After one half of play the Wolverines trailed just slighty 25-20.

Covering some ground in the second half the Wolverines outscored the Bears 25-21, just one point shy of overtime.

Leading thew way for the Wolverines was Gruszynski with 13 points. Fellow seniors Sianna Guns, Kira Spalding and Emalee Johnson all tallied eight points each. Bonduel was led by Allaina Robaidek with 15 points.

"The crowd was pretty anxious, I could feel it," said Chloe Gruszynski. "We had to really change up the offense with the knowledge that they were going to be double teaming me. But it all worked out. I couldn't have done it without all my teammates."

Florence Puts the Screws to White Lake

The Florence Bobcats were not going to be denied a win last Friday night when they shellacked the White Lake Lakers 55-13.

The absolute blow out win for the Bobcats was highlighted by a huge first half which saw the Florence girls take the lead 32-2, a near first half shutout.

White Lake did make up a tiny bit of ground over the second half with their 11 point effort, which was overshadowed by Florence's 23 point closing effort.

Madison Neuens took the reigns in this match up, scoring 13 points while teammate Kathleen Selden chipped in 10 points. Lacey Enders got nine points.

Oconto Takes Loss to Kewaunee

The Oconto Blue Devils were handed a hard loss Tuesday night when they were shutdown by the Kewaunee Storm 72-41.

Kewaunee wasted no time over the opening frame, as they quickly built a huge 36-13 lead.

That lead was attacked by the Blue Devils over the second half as they were able to pile up 28 points. Unfortunately for the Devils the Storm were able to firing 36 closing frame points to take the big win.

The Blue Devils were led by Jenna Hornblad with 18 points and Lauryn Hendzel with six points. Hannah Moe posted four points.

Both teams put forth great efforts in the second half but it was the Rangers who outscored the Cougars just a bit. That second half saw the Cougars' Hailey Ziemer nearly make up the missing ground with her 18 point second half effort that saw her hit four triples.
