Peshtigo Fire Girls Softball Wins Debut
Issue Date: July 15, 2020
The Peshtigo Fire girl's softball team won their opening contest against West DePere 14-3.
The bats were out early and often. Tori Jandt hit a triple to score Maria Pesola and the fire never looked back. Allison Peters and Akira Smalls handled the pitching duties. Sam Kodric, Avery Kehoe, Jaci Tonn and Tori Jandt each scored twice. Emma Gilligan, Rylee Wickstrom, Presley Plym, Maria Pesola and Makayla Sinks each crossed the plate in the win. Peters and Smalls fired pitches to Lani Holmes behind the plate and combined for four strike outs and sealed the game in 4 innings.
Peshtigo coach Jason Kehoe was pleased with the play of the team which consists of 8 Peshtigo and 4 Menominee players. "I thought that going in Tony Kodric and I put a lineup together that can compete with anyone with strong play and chemistry. This is a great group of young ladies that have great chemistry for only having a handful of practices and limited time together. We have the luxury of having three pitchers that have very different styles. I wished we could have seen a little more out of them, but we ran out of time," said Coach Kehoe.
Coach Kodric also added, "I was impressed how this team played together, especially the first game. Every player, played hard! That's all I can ask of them. I am proud of this group of young ladies and look forward to their continued success."
The Peshtigo Fire FastPitch team plays in Green Bay on Wednesday nights and is coached by Kehoe, Kodric and Bryan Wickstrom.
