Nygren, Gallagher Returned To Office, Presidential Race Too Close To CallIssue Date: November 5, 2020 Voters in Marinette County and all across America flocked to the polls in record numbers on Tuesday, Nov. 3 to cast their ballots to what has been one of the most hotly contested presidential races in recent history.
At press time on Wednesday, Nov. 4 the presidential race was still too close to call. National news media observers listed 213 electoral votes for incumbent President Donald Trump and his running mate Mike Pence, and 238 for former vice president Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris, with Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina still undecided.
TIMESLand voters favored the Trump team and all Republicans by more than two to one margins. There were 15,303 votes for Trump/Pence, 7,363 for Biden/Harris, and a total of 293 for the other three ballot teams.
There are 33,217 eligible voters in Marinette County, and 25,525 registered voters. There were 23,525 ballots cast in Tuesday's election, compared to 20,650 in 2016. There were 10,481 absentee ballots cast, compared with 3,617 in 2016.
Voter turnout was particularly heavy in the City of Marinette, where a $30,920,000 school bonding referendum was approved, with 4,092 votes in favor and 3,253 opposed.
State Senate District 12 was won by Republican Mary Czaja-Felzkowski, with 68,679 votes to 34,598 for Democrat Ed Vocke.
Winner of the State Senate District 30 seat, where incumbent Democrat Sen. Dave Hansen did not seek re-election, was Republican Eric Wimberger, with 47,495 votes to 39,711 for Jonathon Hansen. Margin in Marinette County was 4,196 for Hansen and 6,978 for Wimberger.
In the race for Eighth District Representative to Congress, incumbent Mike Gallagher, a Republican, defeated challenger Amanda Stuck by a margin of 267,862 to 150,824. Marinette County voters favored Gallagher with 16,513 votes to 6,280 for Stuck.
Incumbent Republican John Nygren, of Marinette, was returned to office as representative to Wisconsin's 89th Assembly District with 22,823 votes to 10,374 for Democrat challenger Karl Jaeger, also of Marinette,
Incumbent Jeff Mursau, of Crivitz, a Republican who ran without opposition, was returned to his seat in Wisconsin State Assembly District 89 with 9,588 votes.
