Performance Services Inc. Updates Peshtigo Board

Issue Date: March 17, 2021

In public comment at the Peshtigo School Board Meeting on Wednesday, March 10, Gregg Ublacker announced his candidacy for a seat on the Peshtigo School Board in the April 6 election. Ublacker said, "I want to give back to the community and I would love to be able to serve the community as well. I share the same goals as the Chamber of Commerce and received a letter of support from the group". Prior to moving to Peshtigo, he and wife, Bonnie and his three sons lived in Freedom, Wi where their sons, Sean, Brian and Scott attended High School. He now lives in Peshtigo and is a member of St. Joseph and Edward Catholic Church in Porterfield and also belongs to the Peshtigo Lions Club and the Marinette Moose Lodge. Urblacker is the Global Director of Product Stewardship and Regulatory Affairs at Johnson Controls and has worked in the field for many different industries.

An update was given by Performance Services Inc (PSI) team members Doreen of PSI advised the board to continue to give feedback to Superintendent Patrick Rau of mis-information that is being said that is not accurate along with any repetitive questions you continue to hear so we can address all that as we move forward. She said, â€Based on community feedback there is interest in a public informational face to face meeting. We listened to the public and on March 31, an in-person meeting will be held with social distancing and mask wearing required. Times and details will be announced in the Peshtigo Times and also will be available on the schools website. For further information on the referendum visit the district website at www.peshtigo.k12.wi.us

Senior Architect/ Design-Build Group Leader of PSI, Jerry Rolfson advised that PSI approaches every project that it is a school site first and a construction site second. Rolfson commented, â€The first and foremost priority is to make sure that whatever plan is developed that it works for both education and construction. We would build new space first to allow to move into the new space as the old space is being renovated. We want to involve all the stakeholders including the administration and staff, to work through a functional phasing plan based on logical steps to take and work with the school to develop the phasing plan based on the feedback we receive. We will tightly control the interface of the workers with an active school environment on one side along with an active construction environment on the other sideâ€.

Rolfson continued, â€Anything that might be disruptive to the school will be done on school breaks or summer breaks. We make sure we establish sound and dust petitions as needed. A question was asked how many projects are done around school operations and the answer to that question is nearly all of them. We have had literally hundreds of construction projects on the rebuild side and about 50 of full buildings/ additions on the renovation side and almost every single one of them is around occupied school facilities where we have to work with the schools to determine what is the effective phasing and implementation planâ€.

The meeting then moved into the business aspect of the agenda including one retirement that was approved for Director of Technology, Jim Meyer that will be effective at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Several hirings were also approved for Derek Smith as Assistant Track Coach, Glenn Berry as High School English Teacher and Alison Stauss as Middle High School Special Education Teacher.

Several donations were received including Stop The Bleed Trauma Kits from Aurora Medical Center. Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and call-to-action which is intended to cultivate efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. School staff will be trained on the kits and every classroom will have one individual kit in their room. Other donations included: Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) was donated for all district students from T J Maxx; a donation of $250 was made by the Parent Teacher Association (PTSO) for the Peshtigo Elementary Learning Center (PELC) Student Engagement for Valentines Day popcorn; A large donation was made to the the PELC in the amount of $15,417.32 from the PTSO for a Gaga Ball Pit and playground equipment at the PELC and in other donations, $350 was donated from Mr. Bobs Under The Bridge for the Volunteer Club.

Superintendent Patrick Rau announced he had met with the CESA 8 group and three days will be set aside for assessments, audit and an overview. There will also be two days set aside for next June with the Cesa group on site to look at all of our data. A motion was then made to approve the 2021-2022 CESA 8 contract.

The first reading/ technical corrections only of policy readings from 0132.1 through 8800 were approved along with approval of reading of polices 0100 through 9130.

In his Building and Grounds committee report, Josh Seefeldt announced they have made good progress with the elementary rebuild. The playground equipment is scheduled to be put in soon and at the end of the month the committee will go through capital projects and get the tenure in before the end of the existing board possibly changes.

Muriel Carter in her Presidents Report thanked the Board for all of their hard work leading toward the referendum and especially for paying attention, providing feedback and planning for what will be ongoing. Carter said,"I am looking forward to next meeting to put some solidity behind what we will be doing".

For the April meeting, Rau invited the Girls State Champion Bowling Team. Board member Jenny Schwittay asked if the Board can be given an update at the next meeting on virtual learning.
