Bulldogs Bounce Bears in

Second Round Regional Action

The Peshtigo Bulldogs defeated the Bonduel Bears by a 7-1 tally in playoff action Monday evening.

The teams were scoreless in the first, but Bonduel started the scoring in the second when Lila Pleshek reached on an error and came around to score on a Hailey Zernicke double.

That would be the lone run Peshtigo's Bethany Ahrens would see cross the plate, however, as she threw seven innings, allowing just that one unearned run on five hits and no walks. She struck out 10.

"She was in control right from the first pitch," Peshtigo coach Bill Wickman said.

Peshtigo got on the board when Grace Wickman homered in the third to tie it up. In the fifth, Lexi Kehoe walked and scored to start a six-run inning, with a two-RBI triple from Sydney Lund the standout play of the inning.

Wickman was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Lund was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, and Karli Cahill was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.

Marines Collar Bulldogs

For Non-Conference Victory

A big first inning propelled the Marinette Marines to a win over the Peshtigo Bulldogs on Wednesday.

Marinette scored five runs in the inning on the way to an 8-1 victory, with the Marines' first seven batters reaching base, including six of the team's 12 hits in the game. Five of the other six would come in a three-run seventh.

"We've just really been focusing on hitting the ball right away instead of waiting and trying to get runs together right away," senior Marinette pitcher Sydney Nemetz said. "We've really been focusing on our hitting."

Nemetz also scored a run on a 2-for-4 day for Marinette. She had one of five multi-hit days for the Marines. It was a big day for the Marines and their seven seniors.

"We've played in really big games this year but this one meant a lot, with them being neighbors. From about 8U on, it was always Peshtigo and Marinette in the championship, so it was kind of neat for our seniors to at least have this, it was cool," Marinette coach Scott MacIntyre said. "I'm glad we both had our first-round byes to be able to get this one in. It's good for both of us. The competition is good, it's what it's all about."

Also with two-hit games were Renikow, Bailie Thielen, Cienna Grawey, Erdman and Kachaco.

Peshtigo coach Bill Wickman said his team just made a few mistakes in the game, more than Marinette did. He called playing a good team like Marinette a "reality check" for his team, which has dominated most of its Packerland opponents this season.

He said the Bulldogs would take the lessons learned and apply them to practices and the playoffs going forward.

"We'll be ready, just put it that way," he said. "We'll be ready."

For Peshtigo, Grace Wickman was 3-for-3. Bethany Ahrens took the loss for seven innings of eight runs allowed, five of which were earned.

Niagara Ends Wausaukee's Post Season

The Niagara Badgers were the victors in a regional semi-final match with the Wausaukee Rangers Monday night in Niagara.

The win saw Niagara get login in the early goings with a three-run first inning. During that inning, Abby Wells started things off with a walk followed by Aiva Champeau who also walked. Noelle Champagne walked in the next at-bat.

Wells stole home for the first run of the night while Abigail Richtig hit a double to bring in Champeau and Champagne.

Wausaukee answers in the second inning with a four-run effort that was started when Kailee Sievert was hit by a pitch. Autumn Schroeder followed with a single while Emma First batted in Sievert.

Rachel Schlies reached first off an error while also bringing in a run. Amber Caylor scored the final run of the inning thanks to her single to left.

Niagara's second inning saw Lillian Loukus and Emma Broullire both sprint home off an Abby Wells single to right field.

Niagara increased the lead during the fifth inning, scoring runs from Jadah McCarthy, Loukus, Broullire, Beau Anderson, and Champeau to bag the 10-4 lead.

Wausaukee put in a great last effort in the seventh with Schlies swatting a triple before going home on an Amber Caylor single. Caylor also made it to the plate thanks to a Melody Schaal single.

Taking the pitching win for Niagara was Noelle Champagne who allowed seven hits, six runs (three earned), and 10 walks while striking out eight.

Schlies was handed the loss for Wausaukee allowing three hits, 10 runs (five earned), and 17 walks while striking out six.

At the plate, Niagara's Richtig was one for three with three RBIs while Wells was one for three with one run and two RBIs.

Wausaukee's Schlies was one for five with two runs and one RBI. Caylor was two for five with one run and two RBIs while School was two for five with one RBI.

Coleman Wins Regional Showdown with Crivitz

The Coleman Cougars were nearly taken down in the WIAA postseason by the Crivitz Wolverines who lost the matchup in Coleman Monday night by a very narrow margin 8-7.

The Wolverines scored all seven of their run in the first inning and looked like they were going to bring an upset to the diamond of Coleman. But the only upset that was present was the steady attack of the Cougars that flowed the seven-run Wolverines lead on its head.

Coleman got on the board in the third inning with one run before Alyssa Hoida knocked in three runs in the fifth for the 7-4 deficit. Cameron Compe kept the attack on end when she swatted a two-RBI triple in the seventh tying the match at 7-7.

The winning run came when Rachel Terp zeroed in on a Crivitz pitch hitting a sacrifice fly which allowed Compe enough time to tag up and head home for the win.

Coleman's Chloe Dufeck posted the win allowing just five hits over her four and a half innings pitched.

At the plate, Coleman's Compe was two for four with a triple, two RBIs, and one run. Christina Ermis was two for three with one run and one RBI. Hoida was one for four with one run and three RBIs while Terp finished the night with one RBI and one run.

Oconto Falls Advances in Win Over Oconto

In a battle of the Oconto's the Oconto Falls Panthers defeated the Oconto Blue Devils 7-3 Monday night in Oconto to advance in the WIAA softball postseason.

Oconto Falls was first on the scoreboard with a one-run first inning. They improved the leads to two runs in the third inning before the Blue Devils bounced back into the action with a two-run fourth inning.

Tied 2-2 the Panthers looked to put away the match getting the gears turning with a two runs fifth inning which was answered by Oconto with a one-run bottom of the inning.

O. Falls was steady in their finishing innings with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to end the regional match-up.

O. Falls's winning effort was keyed by Arndt who pitched for the win allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and one walk while striking out one over her three and one-third innings.

Oconto's Schleuter took the loss allowing five hits, four runs (three earned), and two walks while striking out five in her four and one-third innings.

At the plate, Oconto's Sohrweide was two for four with one run while A. Viestenz was two for three with one run and one RBI. Brill posted a one-for-two performance with one RBI.

O. Falls' Allen was two for four with one run and one RBI. Euclide was two for four with one run and one RBI. Kurek went one for three with one run
