Fred W. Okins, 91, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021 with family by his side.
Born Nov. 6, 1930 in Olivia, Mn., to the late Fred and Daisy Okins, in early adult life, he served in the United States Air Force, serving as a Staff Sargeant and specializing in electrical and mechanical work. After an honorable discharge and having his first five children, he continued his career as a machinist and moved to Michigan where he married Gabrielann Czeto on April 7, 1973.
A giving man, he donated his time, talents and financials to anyone in need. He especially cared for our country and any and all children. He enjoyed being in the garage, tinkering with anything and everything, spending time on his hobby farm, with his wife Gabe and most recently having breakfast with 'the guys' at local restaurants, as well as being with his cat, dog and horse.
He is survived by seven children, Kimberly (Mike) Taylor and Randy Okins, both of Texas, Rondi (David) Hancock of Arizona, Lori Elkins of Indiana, Cindy (Tim) Hughes of Kentucky, Joseph (Kayla) Okins of Menominee, Mi. and Michael Okins of Stephenson, Mi.; a sister Trude (Dave) Ferguson of Texas and dozens of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Among his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Gabrielann Okins and his siblings, George, Betty, Pauline and Gerald.
In his honor, a Celebration of Life will be held at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Monday, Jan. 10, from 3 p.m. until time of Military Rites at 5 p.m., followed by a service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name with any expressions directed to Joe Okins.
