Joyce I. Johnson, 96, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021 at Rennes Health Care Center in DePere.
Born April 2, 1925 in Marinette, to Arthur and Cecelia (Croteau) LaPlant, she graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Marinette in 1943. After graduation, she moved to Green Bay where she worked at St. Vincent's Hospital as a Clerical Clerk. In 1946, she returned to Marinette and worked at the former Boren Clinic until retiring in 1988. On April 14, 1951, she married Oscar W. Johnson at St. Joseph's in Walsh and he preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1999. She was co-owner of GJ Billing Services until March of 1991 when she took sole ownership of Billing Services.
A member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, she also belonged to the Altar Society and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed being a member of the Funny Duds style show, performing over 80 style shows between Escanaba and Valders in two years. She also enjoyed dancing, especially polkas with her husband at all the local dance halls. She was a member of the Red Hat Mademoiselles and was the first Princess Money Bags for three years.
Survivors include four sons, David (Wanda) of Green Bay, Ronald (Nicky) of Appleton, Kenneth of Menominee, Mi. and Roy of Minneapolis, Mn.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Among her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; a brother, Francis LaPlant and two sisters, Cecelia Peterson and Dorothy Murphy.
Visitation will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek on Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at noon with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara presiding.
