Issue Date: January 13, 2022
Cary Donald Meissner, 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.
Born Nov. 22, 1935 in Chicago, Ill., to Josephine Rachlewicz and Howard Meissner, he served in the United States Marines from 1953 to 1957. He was an Illinois State Patrol Officer and finished his working career as an over-the-road truck driver. He married Elaine Wilks and raised their five children in Grayslake, Ill. before moving to Oconto Falls in 1978. They retired to Florida in the early 90's.
An avid walker, he loved to read spy novels, appreciated a hot cup of coffee, a great meal and a cold beer. He was loved by all, but more than anything, he will be missed for his storytelling and contagious laugh.
He is survived by his children, Leisa Idstein, Kenosha, Walter (Pamela) Wardzala, Punta Gorda, Fla., daughter-in-law, Renee Meissner, Appleton, Mary Brown, Westminster, Co. and Michael (Kat) Meissner, Coleman; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; a son, John Meissner and a granddaughter, Mariana Meissner.
A private service will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to ones choice of a favorite veterans organization, do something kind for a veteran near you or just tell a veteran thank you. Kays Ponger and Uselton Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of Punta Gorda is assisting the family.
