Coleman Cougars are 2022 M&O Conference Champs

Lena picked up three wins from four at Friday's M&O Conference Duals, with the Wildcats only team loss coming at the hands of Coleman, who finished the day with four big wins and yet another conference championship.

The Cougars beat Lena 63-9, though Lena took three of the five live matches. Dylan Comins (106) beat Conner Markiewicz 6-1, Josh Kristoff (170) defeated Isaiah Nowak 4-2, and Franky Umentum (195) picked up a 12-6 decision against Adam Fonder.

Coleman's Micha Kuchta (138) beat Sam Marquardt 5-1 and Brody Zahn (285) pinned Dylan Urbanek in 37 seconds.

Ray Lemieux (113), John Nowak (120), Brady Gross (126), Chance Gruber (132), Ramiro Cortez (145), Karson Casper (152), Will Bieber (160), Cole Klimek (182), and Dameon Burke (220) were forfeit winners for Coleman.

Coleman also beat Crivitz 78-5, Gillett/Suring 79-0, and Oneida Nation 84-0.

The only live match against Oneida was Coleman's Gruber (132) who got a pin over Hunter Webster in 1:32. The rest of the weight classes went to Coleman by forfeit, with the same wrestlers as against Lena.

Against Gillett/Suring, Lemieux (113) pinned Riley Denowski in 46 seconds, Kuchta (138) beat Mason Micoley by 16-0 tech fall, Casper (145) pinned Rattin, Bieber (152) defeated Trent Van Den Elzen by 9-0 major decision, and Lincoln Henry (160) entered the lineup and beat Carter Whisman by a 9-3 score.

Crivitz picked up its lone win from a Kyle Guy tech fall over Fonder by a 17-2 score at 195.

Bieber (160) pinned Dominic Thoreson in 3:56, Klimek (182) pinned TJ Mueller in 4:23, and Markiewicz (106) pinned Evan Kaufman in 2:40. The rest were forfeits.

Lena beat Crivitz, Oneida Nation, and Suring/Gillett on the day.

The Wildcats beat Crivitz on a 19-18 tiebreaker win. Comins (106) pinned Kaufman in 1:44, while Urbanek (285) and Marquardt (138) won by forfeit. The Wolverines got wins from Thoresen (170), who pinned Kristoff in 4:19, Mueller, who pinned Umentum in 58 seconds, and Guy (195), who won by forfeit.

There were no live matches in Lena vs. Oneida Nation, which Lena won 30-6.

Oneida Nation had just one wrestler, Hunter Webster. He won by forfeit at 132.

Lena's Comins (106), Marquardt (138), Kristoff (170), Umentum (182), and Urbanek (285) were unopposed.

Lena against Suring/Gillett ended in a 28-18 Wildcat win. There were two live matches, both won by Lena.

Comins moved up to 113 and pinned Denowski in 1:38 and Marquardt moved up to 145 to beat Rattin in a 10-1 major decision.

Kristoff (170), Umentum (182), and Urbanek (285) won by forfeit.

Suring/Gillett's Micoley (138), Van Den Elzen (152), and Whisman (160) were unopposed.

Crivitz was also beaten by Gillett/Suring on a tiebreaker. The only live match was a Crivitz win, with Thoreson pinning Whisman in 33 seconds. The rest of the matches were forfeits, and the match ended 25-24 on the sixth tiebreaker.

Crivitz did pick up a win against Oneida Nation, 24-6, in a match with no live action. Oneida's Webster and all of the Crivitz wrestlers were uncontested in their weight classes.

There was one live match in Gillett/Suring's 30-0 win over Oneida Nation, a Micoley pin against Webster, which took 58 seconds. There were four forfeits.



Southern Door Defeats

Oconto and Peshtigo


Oconto and Peshtigo each took on Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol on the mats Thursday.

Both teams beat Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol but were beaten by Southern Door.

Peshtigo beat Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol 45-18 but fell 45-24 against Southern Door.

In their win, there were just two live matches. Peshtigo's Connor Thomas (285) beat Seth Laughlin by a 9-2 decision, and Caleb Klimek (152) was pinned by Ben Roman in a minute and 29 seconds.

Ethan Suennen (106), Evelyn Hurley (113), Brenden Conn (120), Reese Yunke (126), Ethan Brissette (132), Jessie Haines (138), and Malakai Yakel (145) each won by forfeit for Peshtigo.

Austin Marquardt (182) and Zak Wrobel (160) won by forfeit for Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol.

There were more competitive matches against Southern Door.

Suennen (106) beat Lukas Kallin by injury default, Conn (120) pinned Spencer Slezewski in a 1:17 pin, Yunke (126) pinned Wyatt Wilke in 1:31, Brissette (132) defeated Trevor Englebert 5-0, and Thomas (220) defeated Brodie Overbeck by 6-4 sudden victory.

For Southern Door, Lucas Conard (138) beat Haines 6-4, Thomas Grosbeier (145) pinned Yakel in 1:15, and Thomas Jackson (152) pinned Klimek in 3:36.

Southern Door won the 113, 160, 170, 182, and 195-pound weight classes by forfeit.

For Oconto against Southern Door, Charlie Jordan (113) won by forfeit and Devon Bostwick (152) pinned Jackson 5:42.

Slezewski (120) beat Tyler Beekman by 10-1 major decision, Wilke (126) pinned Angel Jordan in 2:07, Englebert (132) pinned Ethan Wusterbarth in 3:40, Conard (138) pinned Kyleigh Beekman in 2:58, Grosbeier (145) pinned Miguel Vargas in 5:26, Hayden Jeanquart (160) pinned Dominic Caylor in 3:38, Zack Lynch (170) pinned Kyle Bowman in 5:25, Riley Phillips (195) pinned Owen Hansen in 2:57, and Brodie Overbeck (220) pinned Seth Miller in 34 seconds. The 182-pound weight class was again a forfeit.

Like Peshtigo's matchup with Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, Oconto's was full of forfeits.

Charlie Jordan (113), Beekman (120), Angel Jordan (126), Wusterbarth (132), Beekman (138), Vargas (145), and Bowman (170) each won by forfeit.

Oconto won two of the four live matches, with Bostwick (152) pinning Ethan Denamur in 5:36 and Caylor (160) defeating Patrick Haese 9-4.

Oconto's two losses came as Zak Wrobel (195) pinned Hansen in five minutes and Ben Roman (285) pinned Miller in 1:46.



Panthers Take Bronze

at Herb Tyler Invite


Oconto Falls took third of 22 teams at the Herb Tyler Invitational in Sheboygan on Saturday.

Germantown and Random Lake were the top three teams at the tournament, followed by the Panthers, who had two individual weight class winners.

Clayton Whiting (195) pinned Oshkosh West's Nelson Fournier in 47 seconds, then beat Germantown's Nathan Stiebs by 20-5 tech fall and Two Rivers' Chase Matthias 21-6 to claim first.

Mitchell Kallies (285) wrestled four matches, and they all ended in pins. He beat Seymour's Brock Socha in 53 seconds, Kewaunee's Jacob VanGoethem in 2:58, Germantown's Jackson Kirsch in 1:51, and Sheboygan South's Aden Katz in two minutes to win his weight class.

Graeson Pankratz (120) was second in his weight class. He pinned Sheboygan Falls' Aidan Miller in 3:41 and topped Oshkosh West's Ryland Schneider by a 6-0 decision before facing Campbellsport's Drake Muellenbach in the championship. Muellenbach has a 37-3 record on the year.

Pankratz fought tooth and nail, but lost by a 5-4 decision to finish second.

Garrett Ganter (106) was 1-2 and took fourth, and Luke Trepanier (138) was 2-2 to place fourth.

Jaden Ganter (132) went 4-1 in live matches and took fifth. He pinned opponents from Sheboygan South, Shawano and Seymour, but lost in the quarterfinal to Random Lake's David San Felippo.

Weston Borkovec (145) was 3-2 in live matches with three pin victories, taking sixth. Nick Trepanier (182) won three of his first four, and took three of five overall to place sixth in his weight class.

Quinton McDonald (152), Brayden Kozlowski (160), and Luke Gilbertson (220) did not place.



Marinette, Florence Travel to Wausau

for WI Challenge Series Finals


Marinette and Florence's girls competed at the 2022 WI Challenge Series Finals in Wausau on Saturday.

Florence's Caitlyn Kelley won the girls' 120-pound weight class. She beat Lomira's Makenna Hanke by 10-0 major decision, pinned Hudson's Natalie Klavetter in two minutes, and defeated Jefferson's Tatiana Rios by 9-4 decision to claim the top spot on the podium.

Her teammate Sophia Wagner placed second at 107. After pinning Merrill's Allison Hunter in 58 seconds and Brown Deer/Messmer/Shorewood's Sharmia Evans in two minutes and 55 seconds, she was beaten 10-0 by Baraboo's Alexis Winecke in the first-place match.

Marinette's Katelyn Lewis was second at 165. She beat Holmen's Emily Szak 17-4 and Merrill's Alissa Kracht 19-3 before a 4-0 decision loss to Fennimore's Rachel Schauer in the third round.

There were 104 teams at the event with at least one wrestler, from the northwoods to the Madison and Milwaukee metro areas.

Mukwonago, Holmen and Wausau West were the top three scoring teams, though many teams had both boys and girls wrestling.



Maroons Compete at

UP Championships


Four Menominee wrestlers competed at the UP Championships in Marquette over the weekend.

Ethan Primley-Nerat finished fourth in the 160-pound weight class. He started off pinning St. Ignace's Austin Roughton in five minutes, 44 seconds. He was then pinned by Wyatt Raab of Bark River-Harris and Mason Kivi of Iron Mountain to finish fourth.

Cassie Olson (130), Braxton Wilkworth (171), and Cameran Gauthier (215) did not place after going 0-2 each in live action



Peshtigo Takes Part

in Lumberjack Invite


Peshtigo and Florence visited Wausau East for the Lumberjack Invite on Saturday.

The Bulldogs were 11th of 16 teams, with Connor Thomas winning his individual weight class.

Thomas was first in the 220 weight class, pinning all three of his opponents on the day. He beat Eau Claire North's Josh Schultz in 51 seconds, Wabeno/Laona's Augustus Fink in 5 minutes, 19 seconds, and La Crosse Logan/Central's Aesop Lorenz in 2:21.

Reese Yunke was second at 126. He pinned Stanley Boyd's Brody Westrom in a minute, beat Crandon's Ty Dennee in an 11-3 major decision and defeated Winneconne's Mason Sternard by a 6-0 score. He was beaten 7-2 by Breckin Burzynski of Stanley Boyd in the first-place match.

Ethan Brissette (132) came in fourth with a 1-2 record and Ethan Suennen (106) was 2-2 to take fourth, winning his first two matches before two losses to finish the tournament.

Brenden Conn (126) was 1-3 to take eighth, Makakai Yakel (145) was eighth with an 0-3 record, Jessie Haynes (138) was 1-2 to take 10th, and Caleb Klimek (152) was 0-2 to take 10th.

Florence came in 16th as a team, with just two wrestlers to contribute to the team score.

Breyson Kelley was third place at 160. He started off with a pin of Winneconne's Brady Yonke in 1:11 before a 9-3 decision loss to La Crosse Logan/Central's Sam Veenstra. He finished on a high note with a 10-8 win over Appleton North's Cole Verhyen.

Jacob Smith was 10th in the same 160-pound weight class, going 1-2 in live matches with two pin losses and one win by pin.

Winneconne, Appleton North, and Crandon were the top three teams overall.



Marinette and Oconto Falls

Compete in NEC Championship


Marinette and Oconto Falls competed at the North Eastern Conference Championship in Denmark on Friday. When the two teams went head-to-head, it was the Panthers that picked up a 51-24 victory.

For the Panthers, Parker Peterson (126) pinned Cole Vargo in 44 seconds, Brayden Kozlowski (160) pinned Dalton Heimerman in 1:05, Nick Trepanier (182) beat Jaxon Smith by 10-8 sudden victory, Clayton Whiting (195) pinned Logan Paris in 42 seconds, and Garrett Ganter (106) pinned Grace Holguin in 3:16.

Landon Magnin (113), Graeson Pankratz (120), Weston Borkovec (145), and Mitchell Kallies (285) won by forfeit.

Marinette got wins from Isaiah Walker (132), who beat Jaden Ganter by 6-1 decision, Josh Walker (138), who topped Luke Trepanier 8-4, Dakota Cuff (220), who pinned Luke Gilbertson, and Caleb Dahlen (170), who won by forfeit.

Marinette was also defeated by Freedom and Wrightstown to wrap up an 0-3 day. Oconto Falls was beaten by Denmark and Luxemburg-Casco.

Marinette fell 60-18 to Freedom. Marinette's Isaiah Walker beat Vincent Cook 5-0 in the 132-pound weight class, Cuff (220) pinned Carson Clausen in 1:54, Jonny Bieber (152) beat Caden Clausen 5-1, and Josh Walker (138) won by forfeit.

For Freedom, Landon Wautier (106) pinned Holguin in 5:21, Grayson Ratajczak (126) pinned Vargo in 2:36, Trent Nabbefeld (160) pinned Heimerman in 1:51, Cayman Schuh (170) pinned Katelyn Lewis in 1:54, Trent Feucht (182) pinned Smith in 58 seconds, and Patrick Moore (195) pinned Paris in 3:08.

Peter Tomazevic (113), Ben Wagner (120), Nathan VandeHey (145), and Hunter VanderHeiden (285) won by forfeit.

Wrightstown beat Marinette 54-21, with Marinette winning five live matches to Wrightstown's four. Forfeits hurt Marinette, while Wrightstown also picked up more six-point wins by pin than the Marines did.

Three of Marinette's wins came by decision, with Isaiah Walker (132), Josh Walker (138), and Smith (182) picking up three points each.

Isaiah Walker beat Owen Krueger 10-3, Josh Walker defeated Jacob Durocher 6-4, and Smith was a 9-3 victor over Logan Summers.

Paris (195) pinned Sam Keuler in 2:53 and Cuff (220) pinned Daniel Van Eperen in 2:39.

For Wrightstown, Cameron Schumacher (106) pinned Holguin in 1:53, Kevin Biese (126) pinned Vargo in 1:03, Nick Alexander (152) pinned Bieber in 3:33, Isaiah Pennenberg (160) pinned Heimerman in 1:27, Carter Gibson (170) pinned Caleb Dahlen in 2:15.

Everett Koltz (113), Owen Roebke (120), Caleb DuFresne (145), and Owen Garvey (285) each won by forfeit.

Oconto Falls fell 40-23 against Denmark and Luxemburg-Casco beat the Panthers 54-18.

For the Cougars, Ray Lemieux (113) beat Bo Alberts by tech fall in four minutes, 17 seconds, Brady Gross (126) pinned Alec Bergelin in 1:16, Micha Kuchta (138) pinned Isaiah VanNoie in 3:50, Karson Casper (152) pinned Cole Czarneski in 37 seconds, and Will Bieber (160) pinned Thomas Ullmer in 1:51.

Chance Gruber (132) beat Carson Peterson by 9-0 major decision, Ramiro Cortez (145) beat Quinn Kaminski by 11-7 decision, Cole Klimek (182) beat Luke St. Peter in a 9-0 major decision, and Conner Markiewicz (106) won by 9-0 major over Brady Vieaux.

Brody Zahn won by forfeit at 285.

Denmark won five matches. Brett Soquet (120) beat John Nowak by 4-2 decision, Elijah Shefchik (170) beat Isaiah Nowak by 8-0 major decision, Johah Goetsch (195) was an 8-0 winner against Sawyer Seefeldt, and Eagan Babiash pinned DAmeon Burke in 2:44.
