Cougars Gain State Team Berth; Trounce Tigers in Sectional Final

Coleman advanced to team state with a pair of wins at the Suring/Gillett sectional on Tuesday.

Coleman easily defeated Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Stratford, 63-15 and 53-24, respectively, with coach Kevin Casper saying it was potentially one of the team's best performances ever.

"I am extremely proud of how we wrestled Tuesday night. No doubt about it, it was probably one of our best performances ever as far as how the kids wrestled like a team possessed and there was no denying them," Casper said.

The semifinal matchup was against W-B.

Conner Markiewicz (106) pinned Traeten Bierman in 26 seconds, John Nowak (120) pinned Easton Davis in 3:37, Micah Kuchta (138) beat Andres Sanchez by 16-0 tech fall, Will Bieber (152) beat Owen Schultz by 13-1 major decision, Cole Klimek (182) pinned Coye Brillowski in 3:02, and Brody Zahn (285) pinned Dominic Weso in 37 seconds.

Ray Lemieux (113), Brady Gross (126), Chance Gruber (132), and Karson Casper (145) all won by forfeit.

For W-B, Braeden Groshek (160) beat Isaiah Nowak by 3-2 decision, Nathan Waupekenay (195) pinned Sawyer Seefeldt in 5:12, and David Gauderman (220) pinned Dameon Burke in 28 seconds.

The final was a bit closer, but Coleman was never truly challenged by Stratford.

Lemieux (113) pinned Cayden Leonhardt in 1:06, John Nowak (120) pinned Ashtyn Kuehn in 2:31, Gross (126) pinned Vance Kielman in 1:01, Gruber (132) beat Brandon Knetter by 19-4 tech fall, Micah Kuchta (138) beat Ryan Becker 3-2, Casper (152) pinned Dillon Kirsch in 32 seconds, Bieber (160) beat Elijah Lucio by 7-4 decision, Peter Kuchta (170) pinned Carter Lueck in 22 seconds, Klimek (195) pinned Alex Mueller in 1:33, and Zahn (285) won by forfeit.

Bieber's win came against the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the state. He turned Lucio late in the match with the score tied to take the lead.

Stratford's Trenton Cournoyer (106) pinned Lexus Baars in 34 seconds, Gavin Drexler (145) pinned Ramiro Cortez in 2:46, and Jackson Ormond (182) won by forfeit.



Panthers Come Up

One Win Short at

Amherst Team Sectional

Oconto Falls fell short of qualifying for team state wrestling with a loss to Luxemburg-Casco in the Amherst sectional championship on Tuesday.

After the Panthers beat Amherst 51-30, Lux-Casco defeated them 60-10.

In the final, Oconto Falls' two wins came through a Clayton Whiting (182) pin of Ezra Waege in 4:51 and a 12-1 major decision win by Mitchell Kallies over Joseph Chervenka at 285.

The Spartans won the rest of the matchups. Jake Jandrin (106) beat Garrett Ganter 11-0, Isaac Jerabek (113) beat Hunter Bozile 12-2, Easton Worachek (120) beat Graeson Pankratz 9-0, Blakelee Bastien (126) beat cole Bozile 6-0, and Caleb Delebreau (132) pinned Parker Peterson in 1:04.

Max Ronsman (138) pinned Jaden Ganter in 2:19, Tristan Thiry (145) pinned Luke Trepanier in 4:33, Hunter Joniaux (152) pinned Weston Borkovec in 1:32, Ryan Rothieaux (160) pinned Quinton McDonald in 55 seconds, Trace Schoenebeck (170) pinned Brayden Kozlowski in 1:05, Sebastian Sauter (195) beat Nick Trepanier by 8-4 decision, and Luke VanDonsel (220) pinned Luke Gilbertson in 1:24.

To qualify for the championship, Oconto Falls got nine wins over Amherst, including two forfeits.

Whiting (182) pinned Colton Jakubek in 51 seconds, Nick Trepanier (195) pinned Hunter Biadasz in 3:52, Kallies (285) pinned Peter Werner in 2:48, Garrett Ganter (106) beat Lia Peterson by 9-2 decision, Hunter Bozile (113) pinned Ryan Warzynski in 3:28, Pankratz (120) and Cole Bozile (126) won by forfeit, Parker Peterson (138) pinned Caleb Pinkalla in 2:33, and Luke Trepanier (145) pinned Jake Hall in 4:21.

Amherst's Talon Armatoski (132) won by forfeit, Shane Suthheimer pinned Borkovec in 54 seconds, Ephraim Anglemyer (160) pinned McDonald in 2:34, Jack Bohm (170) pinned Kozlowski in 1:56, and Jake Hoffman (220) pinned Gilbertson in 3:21.
