Carole Irene (Bromund) Furton, 85, of Menominee, Mi., passed away at home on Friday, May 13, 2022 of natural causes.
Born Feb. 22, 1937 in Cleveland, Oh., to Armin and Irene Bromund, she lived in the Marinette Menominee area most of her life. She graduated from the former Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1955. On Oct. 27, 1956, she married Dean Furton at St. Ann's Church in Menominee and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2018.
She attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oshkosh and worked as a paraprofessional for Menominee Area Public Schools from where she first retired. She then attended NWTC to receive her EMT and Paramedic licensure, working at Bay Area Medical Center until her final retirement.
A Master Gardener, she also volunteered for the Marinette Menominee Free Clinic and the Marinette Literacy Council and belonged to several bridge clubs. Together they wintered in Naples, Florida and with family, they enjoyed being at their cabin on the Menominee River and time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren was very special to her.
Survivors include five children, Fred (Susie) Furton, Joel (Kim) Furton, Tony (Joanne) Furton, Lynda (Jeff) Zuraski and Mike (Angie) Furton; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Wednesday, May 18 from 4 p.m. until time of a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m., with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee.
