Issue Date: September 16, 2021

Coleman Boys Finish

Second at Northern

Lights Invite

The Coleman Cougars competed at the Northern Lights Cross Country Invite on Friday.

Racing at Winagamie Golf Course in Neenah, the Coleman boys took second of six D3 teams, while the girls were seventh of nine D3 teams at the race.

The race was run under the cover of the night sky, with the course lit by Christmas lights and floodlights.

"It was a very exciting night" and the energy was quite high," Coleman coach Becky Chaltry said. "This was the first time this race was held in this area and it was a blast."

The Cougar boys were second only to Cedar Grove-Belgium, beating out Stratford, St. Mary Catholic, Winnebago Lutheran Academy and Weyauwega-Fremont.

Senior Karson Casper was third of 60 D3 runners with a time of 17 minutes, 53 seconds, while fellow senior Alex Rennie took 11th at 18:27.9.

Junior John Nowak took 15th (19:12.9), freshman Isaiah Nowak was 18th (19:32.8), junior Ray LeMieux took 22nd (19:37.9) and freshman Tyler Rennie placed 25th (19:56.9). Freshman Conner Markiewicz rounded out the Cougar finishers in 54th (24:27.6).

Lourdes Academy, Weyauwega-Fremont and Stratford were the top three teams in the girls race. Coleman beat out Reedsville and Laona-Wabeno to finish seventh.

The top Coleman finisher was senior Desiree Nowak, who took 19th of 75 runners (22:12.5). Junior Corrin Liptak was 24th (22:37.3), sophomore Kiersten Jensen was 35th (23:27.7), senior Sara Seefeldt took 45th (24:42.4) and junior Sylvia Fochesato took 61st (27:04.6).

"Several of my kids ran their personal bests of the season so far, so I was extremely pleased," Chaltry said.

Panthers Pace

Area Teams at

Shawano Invite

Five local teams competed at Saturday's Shawano Cross Country Invite, with the Oconto Falls teams the highest finishers of Marinette and Oconto County representatives.

Oconto Falls' girls were seventh of 15 teams and third of eight Division 2 teams at the race. Kaukauna's girls were first overall, while Xavier's girls were the best amongst D2 teams (third overall).

Oconto Falls sophomore Hannah Ludemann was 17th of 125 runners overall with a time of 21 minutes, 35.2 seconds.

Behind Ludemann, Brooke Hodkiewicz was 20th (21:51.4), Hailey Delzer took 36th (22:38.8), Maddy Przybylski took 63rd (23:55.1), Ava Hodkiewicz was 79th (24:44), Sydney Bell took 108th (26:49), Helen Marquardt took 118th (29:06.7) and Brooke Senn placed 119th (30:04.4).

Oconto Falls still has a relatively young squad, with no seniors on the list for Saturday's race. Delzer and Hodkiewicz are freshmen, with the rest of the roster consisting of sophomores and juniors.

Oconto Falls' boys were eighth of 17 teams. Notre Dame and Hortonville were the top two overall teams.

Senior Joe Adams was second amongst local runners, taking 12th in the field of 139 total runners (17:25.3), while Ben Adams took 38th (18:26.1), Grant Yuma was 55th (19:09.2), Griffin Kopke took 59th (19:13.9), Brant Laluzerne took 84th (19:56.9) and Emerson Rice was 100th (20:36).

Gillett's girls took 12th overall. Carleigh Kaczmarek was 15th overall but first amongst D3 runners with a time of 21:28.5. There were four complete or partial D3 teams, with 22 total runners.

Angela Mosconi was 45th (22:54.1), Kasey Hansen took 69th (24:09.9), Cheyenne Krueger took 73rd

(24:25.6), Laney Debauch took 85th (25:00.3), Alaina Herzog was 91st (25:07.3) and Amber Brehmer placed 109th (26:52.3).

The Gillett boys were 10th overall. Alex Peterson, Evan Peterson and Conner Hanson were the top three, respectively, amongst 17 D3 runners in the race.

Alex Peterson was fifth of 139 total runners with a time of 16:39.6. Evan Peterson took 13th (17:29.7), Hanson was 39th (18:26.8), Zander Davis was 131st (23:24.6) and Virgil Herzog placed 138th (29:40.1).

The Marinette girls placed 13th as a team. Marinette did not have a full boys team.

On the girls side, Ava Dahlman was 48th (23:08.1), Addison Lacy took 54th (23:18.5), Molly Kuntson was 61st (23:45.9), Karissa Valitchka took 105th (26:23.4) and Makenzie Hebert placed 114th (28:12.8).

Running for the boys were David Jezowski (54th, 19:03.8), Jackson Draheim (103rd, 20:42.3), Dillion Hebert (129th, 22:53) and Isiah Beaudo (137th, 25:27.4).

Peshtigo did not have a complete girls or boys team, but the Bulldogs had some good individual times on the day.

For the Peshtigo girls, freshman Holly Pesch was 12th overall (21:18) and senior Sydney Lund took 18th (21:41.7). Senior Arikka Carroll was 104th (26:13.7) and freshman Alaina Archambault took 113th (28:11.5).

The boys side was led by 31st-place Andrew Nelson (18:03.1) and 32nd-place Logan Smith (18:05.4). Cole Grabian was 119th (21:53).

"Very proud of the team. Second meet of the year with a lot of young kids, so very glad to see them improve their times," first-year head coach Derek Smith said. "I think the strategy today with the seniors was just "clear your mind and run, you don't need to worry about the football game that got canceled last night, you don't need to worry about some of the things going on in the world.' It was "go out and run.'"

Suring had individual runners in the girls race but no team score. The Eagles did not have any runners in the boys race.

The Eagle girls were led by Chantelle Vandenelzen, who took 82nd (24:51.5). Hailey Thomson was 86th (25:00.5), Georgia Gerndt took 101st (25:59.3) and Samantha Seibert was 115th (28:15.6).
