THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
City To Advertise For Two DPW Positions
Issue Date: April 3, 2022
Only two items were on the agenda for the City of Peshtigo Personnel Committee on Thursday, March 24. They were to discuss the process to fill two vacant positions.
Before discussions began, Alderperson Debbie Sievert commented that the Department of Public Works crew is doing a great job and handling things very well. Mayor Cathi Malke added, "I will go on record saying that Jeff Thompson, Mark Madden, Jason Stibbe and Richie Sparks have been doing a phenomenal job with their duties. They take their job and duties very seriously. Their expertise with the years they have had in working for the city has prepared them well. Recently there was a water main break with one of the water towers springing a leak and it is all fixed".
The two open positions include the vacancy of Director of Public Works George Cowell's position with his recent retirement from the city. The other available position is for a labor/truck driver/heavy equipment operator with Jacob Devich leaving the position for a job in his prior field before working at the City.
Both positions will be posted starting Thursday, March 31 in the Peshtigo Times, an online employment service and they will also explore if NWTC has a resource to post the position. The postings will go through April 13 with an application deadline of Wednesday, April 20 for the Laborer position. The Director of Public Works position will be posted for three weeks with an application deadline of Wednesday, April 27 and will also be posted in the League of Municipalities and other journals throughout that time period.
A motion was then made to update the job descriptions and post properly as discussed.
The next meeting will be held Monday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. with one of the agenda items being to review the applications of both positions and possibly discuss hiring for one or both of the positions.
