Gregory Lee "Greg" Maas, 65, of Iron Mountain, Mi., passed away Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Norway Speedway in Norway, Mi.
Born May 26, 1957 in Iron Mountain, to the late William "Bill" and Margaret "Joyce" (Oliver) Maas, he grew up in Kingsford and was a lifelong resident of the area. He married Lori Wright on Dec. 31, 1988, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. He worked for the Local Labors Union #1329 in Iron Mountain for 25 years before retiring. He then worked at the Iron Mountain Daily News.
An avid NASCAR and racing fan, he had racing in his blood and was an active volunteer at the Norway Speedway for 34 years, where he served as a track official, flagman and many other duties. He looked forward to the Friday night races and asked many to join him at the track. He also enjoyed the Denver Broncos, golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Lori Maas, Iron Mountain; two sons, Alan Scott, Menominee, Mi. and David (Kristen) Scott, Reeds City, Mi.; two daughters, Monica (Ryan) Lemerond, Wakefield, Mi. and Shanon (Joshua) Lake, DePere; a sister, Glenda Walters, Florida; a brother, William "Bill" Maas, Kingsford, Mi.; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; in-law, Michael (Penny) Maraccini, Merriman, Mi., Beverly Lindberg, Ishpeming, Mi. and Bob Waldbillig, Aurora, Wi.
Visitation will be at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain on Thursday, June 2 from 9:30 a.m. until time of a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m., with Pastor Irene White officiating.
