David "Smokey" Gordon, 74, of Grover, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
Born May 28, 1947 in Utah, to the late Robert (Stanley Moskal) Gordon and Frances (Miller) Hawkes, he was a decorated Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Navy for three years on the the USS Somers (DDG-34) and then re-enlisted for three years in the United States Army.
He received the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star, Sharpshooting Badge, Vietnam Service Metal, W/2 Campaign Stars, Vietnam commendation W/60 device and 3 overseas bars.
He loved gardening and tending to his yard, meat processing, smoking foods and making Elderberry Wine.
Survivors include a son, Darrel (Amanda) of Peshtigo; two step-sons, Michael (Joanna) Gebhardt of Iowa and Peter (Katie) Gebhardt of Tomah; two brothers, John (Jeanie) Gordon of Peshtigo and Mike Gordon of Alaska; three half-brothers, Jim Moskal of Marinette and Dan Hawkes and Michael (Audrey) Hawkes and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; foster parents, Bob (Vi) Hart; a brother, Ed Gordon and a half-sister, Elizabeth Brooks.
Private family services will be held with Military Honors. Burial will be in St. Joe's Cemetery in Walsh. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home of Peshtigo is assisting the family.
