THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Change Allows More to Participate With NLMG at Harmony Arboretum
Issue Date: June 16, 2022
The Harmony Arboretum is located 7 miles west of Marinette on Hwy. 64 then 1/2 mile south on county E. The Arboretum has become a tourist and gardeners' destination and was recently featured in the Northwoods Journal Publication.
Harmony offers a demonstration garden, a shade garden, water structure, beaver pond display, orchard, herb garden and a children's garden. The children's garden includes a tunnel for the children to see the world from a chipmunk's point of view. There are several hands-on displays so children can play and learn at the same time.
The Harmony Arboretum has an endless variety of annual and perennial flowers and shrubs. There is a pavilion and picnic tables for those wishing to spend the day. Best of all admission is free and it is open to the public.
Harmony Arboretum is maintained and supported by the Northern Lights Master Gardeners Association Inc. in conjunction with the Marinette UW Extension. Master Gardeners teach gardening classes throughout the community and children in the community visit the gardens through local school field trips.
Contributions to the Northern Lights Master Gardener's organization go to fund the development of The Harmony Arboretum and this increases opportunities for community outreach programs currently in place.
A recent change allows The Northern Lights Master Gardeners Association to increase their membership opportunities to volunteers as newly designated associate members. This means that interested candidates can join the organization as an associate, without having the master gardener certification. This change allows the Northern Lights organization to better serve the public by teaching gardeners of all skill levels under the umbrella of certified master gardeners.
Whether a seasoned gardener or have never planted a seed, but have interest in gardening or horticulture, persons can now qualify to become an associate member. They can learn from Master Gardeners as they work with the group improving one's skills without investment in more formal training.
For additional information on becoming a member, persons can find North Lights Master Gardeners on face book by searching NLMGA or contact them at northernlightsmgv@gmail.com.
