Parker-Jose-Stockwell Legion Auxiliary Celebrates Memorial Day

The American Legion Post / Unit 66 of Athelstane/Silver Cliff held a Memorial Day Service followed by the Annual Picnic on Sunday, May 29th at the Silver Cliff Picnic Area. The flag of Post 66 member Al Leurquin was presented by his family and was raised in his honor to be flown for the remainder of the day. Post 66 Chaplain Dennis Prah read the opening prayer. Post 66 Members posted all of the Military Service and POW-MIA Flags
Post 66 Members Bill Woger, Bill Thompson and Rick Bub performed the Official Flag Folding Ceremony in honor of Post Member Lenny Doering. Presenting the ceremonial flag was Unit 66 Member Cassie Meyers.
The 2022 Scholarship recipients were presented their certificates from the American Legion Post and Unit 66. They include Autumn Schroeder, Elizabeth Schaal, Unit 66 Scholarship Chairman Amy Vann and Dylan DeBauche.
American Legion Auxiliary sponsors the ALA Poppy Poster Contest each year. There were over ninety posters on display for the Memorial Day Picnic. Wausaukee School Art Teacher Jaime Wszelaki put together a collage of artwork for the community to admire.
Unit 66 Member Jam Meyer read a Memorial Day Tribute. After the tribute all attendees were invited to lay Poppies on the Memorial Marker. Post 66 Honor Guard completed the ceremony with the 21 Gun Salute followed by Taps played by Post 66 Chaplain Dennis Prah.
Everyone was invited to enjoy food, refreshments, and other entertainment at the annual picnic.
On Monday, May 30th, Memorial Day Services were held at the local cemeteries. The Post/Unit 66 Honor Guard posted the flags for both services. At the Athelstane Cemetery the Wausaukee High School Band played several patriotic songs. At the Silver Cliff Service, the Kanzenbach family performed several beautifully done songs.
