
Wausaukee Invites Veterans To March Or Ride In July 2 ParadeIssue Date: June 23, 2022 At the Wausaukee village board meeting on Monday, June 20, Village President Pat Tracy reported that the Marinette County Fair Association is hosting the Independence Day Celebration at the Marinette County Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 2.
Tracy stated that the Village is seeking active and/or retired military service members to participate in the July 2 parade. He said Wausaukee's American Legion Post only has a few remaining members, and most of them are unable to walk the parade route due to age and/or disability.Tracy said a trailer will be available to transport any elderly or disabled vets who would like to participate in the parade.
Disabled and elderly veterans, along with any able bodied active or retired service members willing to march in the parade, are asked to meet in the parking lot of J&R Auto at 12:30 p.m. on July 2.
Later in the meeting the board approved a temporary Class B beer retail license for the Marinette County Fair Association for the July 2 event, and for the annual Marinette County Fair, which will be held from Thursday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 28.
Tracy announced that the Wausaukee Community Association will host the 13th Annual Wausaukee Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday, October 1. Interested vendors can access the information and application through the Village's Facebook page or website.
Tracy called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. in the board room of the new municipal building/library/community center at 704 Main Street. Trustees in attendance were Darryll Schmidt, J.J. Feldmann, Mack McKim, JoAnn Tracy, Steve Stumbris, and Keith Frank. Also present were Administrator/Clerk/Treasurer Sara Pullen, Public Works Supervisor Dennis Whitton, WWTP Operator in Charge Jeff Mayou, WWTP Operator Tylor Stumbris, County Board Supervisor Hank Novak, and Carrie & Richard Brazeau.
The Board reviewed a recent memo from Doug Kroes regarding progress of the Municipal Well No. 4 project, stating that MCC delivery to the site will be on Friday, July 1, installation will be completed by July 18, and final clean-up and punch list will take place on Wednesday, July 27.
On a bad news note, Pullen advised the board that Sam's Well Drilling has not responded to the Village's second request to obtain reimbursement for a surplus payment of $15,082.90. She said the village attorney will now proceed to declare a contractor default, terminate the construction contract, and proceed accordingly with formal legal action.
The Board reviewed the Street Report as presented by Dennis Whitton and the Utility Report as presented by Jeff Mayou.
Bills were approved for payment as printed, and meeting minutes were approved, as was the Treasurer's Report as presented by Sara Pullen.
In his President's Report Tracy announced that the Village of Wausaukee had received a $5,000 grant from the M&M Area Community Foundation for the purchase and installation of acoustic tiles in the new community center.
During time for "Business with Guests" at the start of the meeting, Carrie Brazeau, candidate for Marinette County Clerk of Court, addressed the Board in regard to her campaign platform for Marinette County Clerk of Circuit Court, and provided Board members with a listing of her credentials and endorsements.
Hank Novak, newly elected Marinette County Supervisor for District 9, introduced himself to the Board. He stated that while the Village is not in his supervisory district, he is ready and willing to work with the Village Board to help the entire area grow and prosper. He stated that he's always ready to listen to any issues the Village may have and encouraged the Board members to reach out at any time.
Annual 2022-2023 Class "A" & "Class A" Retailer's License applications were renewed as requested for Wausaukee LaFaive Corp (BP), Krist Oil Co., Behls LLC (Exxon), Sal's Food Center, Family Dollar, and Merrill Distributing (Ranger City Marketplace); Annual 2022-2023 Class "B" & "Class B" Retailer's License Applications were approved for Chippewa LLC (Chippewa Bar), Chippewa LLC (Dark Horse Bar & Grill), J.E.M. Hospitality Inc (Manor on Main), and Wausaukee Bowl.
Annual 2022-2023 Cigarette License Applications were approved for Wausaukee LaFaive Corp (BP), Krist Oil Co., Behls LLC (Exxon), Sal's Food Center, Family Dollar, and Dollar General. Stumbris made a motion seconded by Schmidt to approve the 2022-2023 Cigarette License applications for Wausaukee LaFaive Corp (BP), Krist Oil Co., Behls LLC (Exxon), Sal's Food Center, Family Dollar, and Dollar General. Motion carried.
